Most people do this\nover and above their normal work \u2013 so in their spare time \u2013 and therefore the\nimportance of making it easy and engaging is paramount. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However many Membership Bodies struggle to provide this service is an\nenticing digital form which can add tremendous value to the member. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s take a\ncloser look at some of the challenges and opportunities. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Access to high quality, reliable and\nrelevant content <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s so important\nfor members to be able to read or watch quality content that will help them in\ntheir career and CPD goals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet currently\nit\u2019s a minefield, not only to find reliable content online, but also to assess\nwhether it will add any value towards specific CPD goals. Even if the content\nexists on individual Membership Organisation (MO) websites, few websites have a\ncommon taxonomy that links all useful assets together so that members can learn\nmore about the standards, qualifications and topics that are most relevant to\nthem and most important for how they will be measured. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The solution\nis easier access to quality content in bite-sized form. This will enable MOs to\nattract and retain more members through providing a crucial service that members\ncan actually rely on to support them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong> Timely consumption of CPD<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The more time\nyou spend looking for content the less time you have to devote to CPD. The solution is easy access to content via their mobile devices\nand a level of automation so that this content can directly match to the gaps\nin their CPD goals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will increase\nthe frequency of engagement and maximise the precious time they have to learn. Especially\nimportant if MOs are to attract a younger millennial generation \u2013 50% of the\nworking population by 2020 &#8211; who are critical to their longevity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ability to demonstrate completion of\nCPD<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, a member\nhas gone to great lengths to find relevant quality CPD material, they have\nfound time to consume it, but now they have to demonstrate what they\u2019ve carried\nout. This is where it can get even more time consuming and where many members start\nstruggling to see the value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The solution\nlies in technology and it already exists. You can tell the second a user\nstopped watching a video, the page someone dropped out of a PDF, what theme of\ncontent they like or follow and QR codes can be scanned to verify attendance at\nkey events and courses. This is not new but widely supported: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>69% of employees would work harder if they felt their efforts were better appreciated (Globoforce) <\/li><li>Companies with recognition programs that are highly effective at improving employee engagement have 31% lower voluntary turnover (Bersin) <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, it\u2019s still common for MOs is to issue a\ncertificate, which even in PDF form is hard to post online and not really\ntransferable to LinkedIn or other social platforms that most members will be\nusing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The solution is a digital badge customised to the MO and which can be posted online to demonstrate CPD achievements. There are also cases where CPD records\nget lost or mixed up, which is frustrating for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The solution is to automate so that the administrator can\nsee precisely what any member has completed and what they have left to do\nagainst the deadlines set. This would free up more time to spend on proactive\nthings such as curating quality content for the membership. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, automation of CPD activity makes it easy to\nsee the progress of every member and to automate encouragement emails against\ncertain bands of activity. This can be very useful to members as often they are\nnot aware that they are behind and are grateful for an encouraging prompt. To help them conduct and capture\ntheir CPD, and to encourage them to see the value of doing so.
